To David’s City, Bethlehem, they went
To register as Caesar had decreed;
To scribes their house and names did they present
The man, his pregnant virgin, and God’s seed.
In their ancestral home of Israel’s king,
While records still were being written down,
To Earth in humble place did Mary bring
Unrecognized one worthy of the crown.
A son was added unto David’s line,
But Mary’s firstborn, God’s begotten one,
Was laid into a trough where donkey’s dine –
Where cattle feed was fed the Father’s Son.
No palace but the no-room’s place is where
Was born both Earth and Heaven’s royal heir.
